Smile. You're about to meet your new hero… again
OK, this isn't about Firefly or Serenity, so I'm a little off message here. But in the interests of solidarity I wanted to plug a great western/fantasy that was fast, funny, ran on FOX on Friday nights, and was, to the minds of its fans, canceled before its time.
All 27 episodes of "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr" is coming out on DVD this Tuesday, July 18. Set in the old west, this rolicking adventure featured Bruce Campbell as Brisco County Jr, a bounty hunter out to defend innocents from villians and search for his father's killer while getting caught up of a plot involving weird devices, special powers, and glowing orbs. This was a lot sillier than Firefly — think of the whimiscal episodes of The X-Files crossed with The Wild, Wild West.
Pete Hutter: Hello, Brisco.
Brisco County Jr.: Correct me if I'm wrong, Pete, but weren't you killed in a gunfight?
Pete Hutter: It was only a gut shot. I'm stronger now, with less appetite.
Available from Amazon or your local DVD people, the set includes audio commentaries and lots of documentaries, including Campbell reading from "The Book of Bruce." Very fancy.

I've had this on preorder from Amazon for 2 months and now it's almost here. Like Firefly, another great series killed by the "Fox".
Loved this show! It's the exact opposite of Firefly — instead of SF with Old West overtones, it's Old West with SF overtones. And Bruce Campbell's trademarked snarky self-away humor. Wish I could get it right away but I'll get it eventually. I will, I will, I will!
