Buy Firefly eps through Amazon's new Unbox Video
Amazon just launched their new video rental/download system, and Firefly is promoted big time on the front page. At least Amazon loves us…
There will be many downloads in your life. But only one first download from Amazon Unbox Video. So make it special. Light the candles. Pour a beverage and consider:
Firefly, because it didn't get enough love the first time around.
The Matrix, because Morpheus would want you to.
South Park, because you want to bleepin' laugh.
Three Kings, because it's a thriller, an art film, and a killer comedy all in one.
This looks to be a non-iTunes version of iTunes videos, with similar restrictions.
You can download it, but you have to use their player to play it.
You can burn it to DVD but can't watch it on a TV unless you hook your computer up to it.
You can only watch it on 2 different PCs (iTunes allows 5).
Where it differs from iTunes is that you get a large, higher rez copy for watching on your PC and a smaller copy optimized for your handheld device, whereas iTunes gives you one file that's somewhere in between. Consequently you get a much crisp bigscreen version and a portable one with a smaller filesize. They'll only vouch for "Plays For Sure" compatible handhelds, such as Creative Zen Vision: M, Creative Zen Vision, Toshiba Gigabeat S, Archos AV 500, Archos AV 700, iRiver PMC (Portable Media Center). Doesn't work on my old Palm. Sigh.
Also, the program won't work on a Mac, and the shows are for US and Canada sales only.
Like iTunes they're $1.99 each (including the first 2-hour episode) but your first one's free. And you can send episodes as gifts!
But gorram it, they're in the wrong gorram order again! And this is weird, they have the Mal and Book voiceovers at the beginning of the TV versions but they're the widescreen DVD editions (iTunes has the TV pan-n-scans). Best of both worlds?
But hey, the more ways for people to find and fall in love with Firefly, the better.

Interesting…

this link near the bottom of the Amazon page takes you to the Browncoats.com page, which features Odile Beals, my sisters co-worker who introduced her to Firefly.
Odile recently died and has left a great big hole in the 'verse.
She is one of the people responsible for Firefly on DVD and the fan interest that lead Universal to make Serenity.
I hope loads folks go by this wonderful page and check out the sight.
