		<description>The repeating rectangular pattern along the top of the blade are actually blood relief slots.  They perform the same function as a blood groove in a bayonet, relieving pressure as the weapon is driven into a human body.  So the Operativbe sword is a piercing weapon as well as a slashing weapon.  By example, broadswords and Ninja swords are both slashing weapons (admittedly on opposite ends of the finesse spectrum) whereas a calvaryman&#039;s rapier has a blood groove for poking as well as slashing.
