I actually used the original rule book to make a board game for school. It is a wealth of information.

Yes, I think the Serenity RPG rule-book was very interesting even for non-gamers (such as me ). And I'm sure the new books will be interesting for non-gamers, as well (especially the second one, Six-Shooters and Spaceships, which I'm sure could be regarded as a technical companion or an encyclopedia of sorts).
