Marian Call is going to be in our neighborhood performing at the Wayward Coffeehouse in Seattle in mid-November! What a fantastic chance to hear her live before she gets so well-known that ticket prices soar out of reach. This is gonna be so shiny!

As someone tangentially involved with QMx, I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek (listen?) and I have to say it's a work of art; I loved it. This is definitely crossover material - the sort of music that you can play for family and friends who are unaware of the geeky threads running through it and will enjoy it just as much as you do. Or more, even.

(As evidence, an office mate got hooked just by hearing what was coming out of my speakers. And she hates sci-fi. But she loved the music...)

I've always had an admiration for singer / songwriters who let their unique voices carry a piece, ranging from Sarah McLaughlin and Ani DiFranco to Tom Waits and Johnny Cash. This music isn’t necessarily like any of those artists, but it absolutely carries the same sprit that I enjoy so much.

Can you tell I liked it?
