<description>I watched the premiere with great anticipation last night; been a Whedon fan for a long time. In brief: uneven. I give it top marks for: mise en scene, casting, editing, performances. But the whole is a little smaller than the sum of the parts. I&#039;m glad to see Dushku given a chance to show her abilities, but I also saw too many flashes of Faith, not helped by those promo spots in which she appeared in her tough-girl, ya-wanna-make-something-of-it persona. Hope we&#039;ll see more of Acker-holding back and lurking in the shadows is again, too reminiscent of Fred-early-days, not a stretch for Acker. Been there, done that. Overall, I didn&#039;t see the kind of interactions between characters that presage interesting character and interpersonal development. However, This concept has wonderful potential to be dark, intense and even thought-provoking-I hope Whedon is planning to go there, and that Fox (or another network) will support it fully and give it time to find its feet and its audience.
