Get 10 Whedonverse comics for 5 bucks!

gbagwhedonTFAW.com has added another great deal for Whedon fans: the Whedonverse Grab Bag.

We've got a bunch of great Whedon-inspired back issue comic books from publishers like Dark Horse and IDW, and now you can bring 'em home. We've put together 10 different Whedon comics for each bundle–that's only $.50 apiece!

When ordering Grab Bag comics we cannot take requests for specific titles or series. Besides, half the fun is the mystery of what you're going to get! Some of these comics may be warehouse finds, and may have minor dings, scratches, etc.

Want to get a friend hooked on your favorite Whedon-based comics? Or maybe you just like grab bags…

Season two of "The Guild" now on sale

theguild2Codex and the Knights of Good are back!

Felicia Day's massive popular, award-winning Internet TV show is gearing up for its 3rd season so now's a great time to go back and watch all the rest of them. Season 2 is out today, and it's even better than the first.

(If you haven't seen the first, go get it. Yes, you can watch them all online for free but the DVD has extras and better quality and buying it means they can afford to make more and I want more so go buy it.)

The life of Codex, the neurotic online gaming addict (played by Felicia Day, a slightly less neurotic, ex-gaming addict) is not getting any easier . Her Guildmate stalker (Sandeep Parikh) is still after her, the stalker's insane mother got Codex evicted, her new neighbor is a stuntman, the other members of her gaming guild are infighting, a server outage threatens their very way of life, and things couldn't possibly get any worse only, of course, they do.

All of the cast are perfect in their roles — boy, do I recognise these people — but Day's brilliant writing and charming acting bring The Guild to life. The episodes are short (to fit under YouTube's 10-minute limit) and loaded with humor, gamer drama and character development.

On sale at Amazon only.

Um… where's SerenityStuff?

The more alert readers may have noticed some small, subtle changes in the SerenityStuff website. A tiny change in the logo, a slight deepening of the color palette, the fact that it's gone completely…

Well, not gone. All of the posts are still here, but I've combined my other blog with it to create a new one, BashingInMinds.com. There's just not as much Serenity merchandise news these days as everyone involved in the movie has gone on to do more cool stuff and I'd like to talk about them as well. And other things of a geekish nature. So here we are, on the raggedly edge.

As you can see from the tag cloud over on the bottom of the sidebar, "serenitystuff" is still by far the biggest topic. Your old links should still work, the pre-existing RSS feed should still be the same, and with luck all this will mean is that you get to hear me talk more. I'll leave it to you as to whether that's a good thing or not…

Expect some further site changes as I continue to play with this and integrate everything more fully — there's a lot of stuff here. If you're only familiar with my Serenity pimping, welcome! I also write, essays and stories and bad poetry and parodies, and you'll find many years worth here. If you came here looking for cabridges.com or chrisbridges.com, my site serenitystuff.com about merchandise by and for Browncoats has just been folded in (and those old links and RSS feeds will still work as well).

I hope you'll hang around. There's a lot to talk about…

Get me on the hooch! Suggest wine for a non-drinker

So, went to the doctor today. Overall cholesterol still good and well within the safe range, but good cholesterol isn't as high as it should be. He's suggested other things before such as fish oil and walnuts and whatnot, and today he mentioned the report that a daily glass of red wine can improve cholesterol and help lessen the chance for heart disease.

I'm willing to try most anything, except… I don't drink. Not because I have anything against it, I just really hate the taste of alcohol in any amount. While sampling some with friends I managed to find combinations of fruit juice and sangria that were palatable — essentially an extremely weak homemade wine cooler — and a friend introduced me to ice wine one night that was as good as any I've had, but for the most part I've been disinterested in finding ways to stomach something I didn't really want anyway. "The winter grapes add a rich overtone to this kerosene…"

But if it does in fact help my health, I'm willing to give it a shot. Which beings me here, with a question. What should I try?

Ideally I'd want something that resembled a strong sweet fruit juice, with as little alcohol taste as possible. Recent reports from the UK suggest that sherry also has the cholesterol-lowering properties, although not the lowering-heart-disease ones, and that might be an option. And it can't be a budget-breaker.

Any suggestions?

Star Trek might live long and prosper after all

startrek

That… was an excellent movie.

I'm about to go into detail, so don't read on if you're avoiding spoilers. Lots of them.
