Well, maybe disdain of the characters is wrong. They have a pornographic love for poetic justice because they're oh-so-clever. I didn't see how Batman died the second time, when he got killed by Darkseid hex vision. Heroic...I guess. But maybe a little under the radar? Batman gets killed by a Superman villain. But the first time they killed him, getting shot by his dad, or some nonsense, and then a helicopter explodes? Right. Because two things Batman doesn't know how to do is avoid bullet death and leap from an exploding xxxxx. And Captain America? Does he die rescuing people from a collapsing Sears Tower or something patriotic and majestic? Nope. Shot in the back as he was being marched into court on charges of treason against the USA. Right.
