I had a similar experience with this year's NaNoWriMo, though mine was interrupted with care of my roommate's baby (born in the end of October so who was I kidding), and with a craft fair in the middle of the month.
I met up with my grandmother after said craft fair to chat, and I told her about this novel I was working on for fun - you know, something to accomplish just for the heck of it. Her response was to ask, "Why would you do that if nobody's going to read it?" and then look at me like I was crazy.

My novel about the zombie apocalypse was abandoned shortly after that.

This blog entry of yours has spurred me to get in on this Holidailies thing, though - got a new blog started up today, and I'm rarin' to go! Thanks for the inspiration!
