The Serenity lunch box is now two Serenity lunchboxes

dh_lunchboxes.jpgLet's see. First they offered a Serenity lunchbox with the movie logo on one side and the Fruity Oaty Bar logo on the other. We rejoiced. Then the lunchbox was cancelled. We mourned. Then it was put back on preorder again, and rejoicing occurred.

But obviously Dark Horse felt bad about our dark times, because now they're offering two separate lunchboxes. Rejoice the choice!

The Serenity lunchbox: "With the Serenity logo in brilliant litho-printed color on one side, and the ship herself on the other, bordered by the exotic intergalactic currency created for the film, this makes a striking lunch box for any Serenity fan to tote around."

And the Fruity Oaty Bar lunchbox: "Serenity fans everywhere will be able to recognize each other when carrying the cute and colorful lunch box bearing the iconic images from the "Fruity Oaty Bar" commercial. If you know Fruity Oaty Bar, you know your Serenity! This attractive lunch box is an insider's dream come true. Wow!"

If you've preordered, you probably have the Serenity lunchbox coming to you. Check your account and order/cancel/and/or/reorder accordingly. Or buy 'em both!

The Serenity lunchbox is back!

dh_lunchbox.jpg

The boxes are back, and TFAW.com has 'em for preorder at 20% off the retail of $17.99.

In examining the rich and cohesive world of Serenity, we've designed a special lunch box. With the Serenity logo in brilliant litho-printed color on one side, and the iconic image from "Fruity Oaty Bar" commercial on the other, bordered by the exotic intergalactic currency created for the film, this handsome lunch box is an insider's dream come true.

Ship date is listed as March 5, which by sheer coincidence is right around the time the new Serenity comic mini-series is due out. Go get one!

Serenity collectible plate, and more

prop_SE-PLATE1.jpgFinally your Trekkie friends with their Spock plates will have to stop lording it up over you! Ramping up towards their Firefly/Serenity convention in October, Creation Entertainment has added a selection of Serenity items for your edification, including this collectible plate.

There's also plenty of movie still prints, an embroidered Serenity cap, and some T-shirt designs.

Eerily accurate custom Mal doll on eBay

malfirefly1.jpg

Much as I love the official stuff, there's no denying that some of the best Serenity merchandise comes from the fans (one reason why QMx keeps hiring them). A perfect example is this custom sculpted 12" Mal figure.

It started life with a Sideshow body — I'm guessing not a Buffy one — and includes "a real suede Brown coat, leather boots, belt, and holster, and Mal’s unique sidearm." And frankly it looks better than any of the official Mals yet, although I do have an affectionate preference for my Firefly Barbie Mal.

I don't know anything at all about this seller, so bid with the usual eBay caution. But damn.

First official look at the new Reaver ship ornament

dh_reavership2.jpg

Look what popped up in Dark Horse's solicitations for November:

With the fabulous response we've received for our Serenity ships, we are happy to continue with this line of ornaments. Last month we offered Inara's Shuttle, and this month we are pleased to announce the Reaver Ship. Fans of Firefly and Serenity will be familiar with the look of the Reaver ships, created from abandoned ships and spare parts, with their threatening red markings. In Serenity, the Reaver Ships emerge from an ion storm in the quest for Mal and his crew. We've based our ornament on one of the memorable, menacing ships in this scene.

5.5 inches long, 3 inches wide, $39.99.

Zoe statue available for preorder

dst_zoestatue.jpg

TFAW.com is offering Diamond's "Zoe's Revenge" statue for preorder for $79.20, 20% off the retail price.

Continuing the DST line of Serenity statues, this action-packed sculpt features the first mate of Serenity, Zoe! With her husband killed by Reavers and her Captain on a mission of his own, this 7' piece demonstrates how this lovely lady takes care of her own out in the black. Sculpted by Michael Norman and limited to 1,000 pieces, each statue features a magnetically attached Zoe in scale with the previously released action figures as well as a numbered base with matching box and Certificate of Authenticity.

This is the 3rd in their series, following the "Inara Strikes" statue (also available for preorder) and the "River Triumphant" statue. Read my interview with Diamond Select Toys here.

Reaver ship ornament coming from Dark Horse?

dh_reavership.jpg

We've got the Serenity ornament, the Reaverized Serenity ornament, and Inara's shuttle is on the way. Is there a Reaver ship in the future? This pic from the San Diego Comic Con seems to say yes.

Can anyone out there confirm this? Can't make out dates or prices from the card, I'd love to hear more about it. I just wish they had Firefly licensing; I want an ambulance! And Early's ship, and an Alliance cruiser, and…

More pics here.

UPDATE: Got some answers to the questions in the comments from Josh at TFAW.com:

1. The wings don't move on Inara's Shuttle, (sorry).

2. No plans are in the works for the mule yet.

3. The Reaver Ship is next and will probably be available for pre-order sometime in September, Serenity Stuff will let you know when it's available.  Nothing attaches and reattaches on it.

Pre-order Inara's Shuttle ornament

dh_shuttle.jpg

You can now preorder the Inara's Shuttle ornament from Dark Horse from TFAW.com.

Dark Horse is so appreciative of the enthusiasm of Serenity fans, that we've been inspired to add more ships to our line of popular ornaments. This month we bring you Inara's Shuttle.

Fans of Firefly will be familiar with the shuttle that Inara Serra, well-respected companion, rents from Serenity for her periods of separation from the ragtag crew. The shuttle appears again in the film Serenity, when Inara makes her welcome return to the renegades.

* This item is limited to pre-orders only. After orders are taken, edition size will be set.

5.5" long x 5" wide, Ornament can be hung or placed on stand for display. Retail is $29.99, you can preorder for $23.99. Due February 13, 2008.

Reaverized variant Serenity ornament now on sale

tfaw_ornamentvariant.jpg

"Serenity in Disguise" hit the stores today, and if you failed to preorder you can prolly grab one anyway if you're quick, since TFAW.com has a few extra.

Due to overwhelming demand, we are creating a special variant edition of one of our most popular new releases, the Serenity ornament. This will be a special release, and will be limited to advance orders only. No reprints or reorders.

As Serenity fans know, there is a sequence in the film where the crews disguises Serenity as a Reaver ship. We've taken the existing ornament, added a few sculptural details, and revised the paint application accordingly. Voila! Something special for the true fan.

Like the regular ornament, this version will have both a hanging hook and also a small pedestal base, allowing the ornament to be hung traditionally or displayed on the base on a flat surface.

6" long x 3 1/2" wide, full color ornament, $24.99. Order it here. I'll post pics as soon as mine arrive.

New Serenity statue – Zoe's Revenge

dst_zoestatue.jpgBefore the announcement about the Inara statue is even cold, Diamond Select Toys has already announced the next statue coming out after that: "Zoe's Revenge."

Continuing the DST line of Serenity statues, this action-packed sculpt features the first mate of Serenity, Zoe! With her husband killed by Reavers and her Captain on a mission of his own, this 7" piece demonstrates how this lovely lady takes care of her own out in the black. Sculpted by Michael Norman and limited to 1,000 pieces, each statue features a magnetically attached Zoe in scale with the previously released action figures as well as a numbered base with matching box and Certificate of Authenticity.

I'm overjoyed to see more Serenity stuff coming out, and I love all of it. That said, I'm going to need to see this one more closely before I decide what I think. The face doesn't look quite right to me, but then neither did the promo pic of the "River Triumphant" statue and I was happy with the actual result. Retail price isn't listed yet but I think it's safe to say it'll be the same $99 as the other two.

And how cool is it that they're doing the women first? Take that, male chauvinistic action figure manufacturers!

I'm Twittering!
