Dr. Horrible week begins with new DVD and new merch

drhorribledvdThe Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog DVD is almost here!

Well, actually you've been able to get one for months now through Amazon's own DVD publishing system. But tomorrow it'll be available in other online stores, and even in real, physical, walk-in-and-buy-one shops! As far as I know it's the same DVD, with the same contents and extras (crew and cast commentary, original musical "Commentary!" commentary, various making-of videos, the 10 best fan-submitted Evil League of Evil video submissions, some Easter eggs, etc), but now if you've avoided buying it from Amazon for whatever reason, you have no more excuse.

Get it at Barnes & Noble ($13.49) or Best Buy (just #9.99)

Or sign up to be notified when the Blu-Ray version will be available! Evil has never been so high-def!

While you're waiting, don't forget the soundtrack or the many fine shirts and other merchandise available:

Shirts and accessories available from the Dr. Horrible store (the Dr. Horrible cartoon shirts and the Team Hammer tees are also currently nearly half price at TFAW.com)

Season two of "The Guild" now on sale

theguild2Codex and the Knights of Good are back!

Felicia Day's massive popular, award-winning Internet TV show is gearing up for its 3rd season so now's a great time to go back and watch all the rest of them. Season 2 is out today, and it's even better than the first.

(If you haven't seen the first, go get it. Yes, you can watch them all online for free but the DVD has extras and better quality and buying it means they can afford to make more and I want more so go buy it.)

The life of Codex, the neurotic online gaming addict (played by Felicia Day, a slightly less neurotic, ex-gaming addict) is not getting any easier . Her Guildmate stalker (Sandeep Parikh) is still after her, the stalker's insane mother got Codex evicted, her new neighbor is a stuntman, the other members of her gaming guild are infighting, a server outage threatens their very way of life, and things couldn't possibly get any worse only, of course, they do.

All of the cast are perfect in their roles — boy, do I recognise these people — but Day's brilliant writing and charming acting bring The Guild to life. The episodes are short (to fit under YouTube's 10-minute limit) and loaded with humor, gamer drama and character development.

On sale at Amazon only.

Blu-Ray Firefly DVD winners!

We have winners!

Just pulled three names at random to win free copies of the new and utterly cool Blu-Ray Firefly DVD sets from SerenityStuff and the fine folks at PersephoneTravel.com. They weren't chosen for the memories they selected, but I'm posting them anyway because I loved reading all of these. Every single one got me going "Oh, I loved that part, too!" I'm sure glad I didn't have to choose one memory…

First up: Ben

Wow, really? I have to choose? Why can’t I say them all?

Well there are so many good ones, but here I go…

I would have to say that I love that scene with Mal and Jayne in Ariel when Mal knocks out Jayne after the job. Mal knows he’s betrayed him, his crew, therefore his family. He throws him in the airlock and threatens him.
Jayne: What’re you takin’ it so personal for? It ain’t like I ratted you out to the feds!
Mal: Oh, but you did! You turn on any of my crew, you turn on me! But since that’s a concept you can’t seem to wrap your head around, then you got no place here. You did it to me, Jayne. And that’s a fact.

You just get the strongest concept of family and that is what Browncoats are about.

Next: MizBehavin1

It’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite scene from a single episode let alone the entire series. I have humorous favorites, dramatic favorites, joyous favorites and sad favorites — and usually all of these in the same episode.

Many of my favorites have already been mentioned, but since it was the humor mixed with pathos in the show that made me a fan, and given that Mal & Kaylee are my favorite characters/relationship in the show, I’m choosing one from “Serenity (Pilot)”.

After Kaylee gets shot & Simon operates on her, the scene begins when Mal returns to the infirmary to look in on her and she awakens to say, “Captain?” and Mal replies with, “Hey…Hey little Kaylee, what’s the news?”

I love this scene because despite Mal’s retort that he’s a mean old man, everything about this scene shows that at his core he is not.

And finally: Jim Brewer

My favorite scene is at the battle of Serenity Valley where Mal dodging through all the enemy fire to destroy the antiaircraft gun.

E-mails are wending their way to these folks even as we speak. I need to hear back from you by noon EST next Saturday or another name will be drawn in your place. Faster would be better.

Congratulations to you three, and many thanks to everyone who entered. It was great reading through the memories to see what helped draw each of us in to become the devoted fans that we are. And huge happy thanks to PersephoneTravel.com for letting me do this! You can still buy a copy for your ownself at the FOX Store or at retailers everywhere.

Firefly and Serenity coming to Blu-Ray

Finally you get to see the 'verse close up and personal, with more detail than you knew existed! Plus there's extra stuff.

FIREFLY

Besides how great it will be to see this in high-def – I may have to break down and  buy a damn blu-ray player now – there's new stuff! A new additional audio commentary by Joss, Nathan, Alan and Ron (on "Our Mrs. Reynolds") and the featurette "'Firefly' Reunion: Lunch with Joss, Nathan, Alan and Ron." Yes, we get to hear Nathan talk about his bride. I'd pay just to hear that… I thought I had read about a cnew commentary on "Ariel" but I forget where, so I'll get back to you.

Coming next Tuesday on three BD-50 dual-layer discs, presented in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround. Audio options include French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround dubs, an additional German DTS 5.1 Surround track, and English, Spanish and Dutch subtitles. You can still preorder it at Amazon and get it for $57.95, 32 bucks off the retail price.

What do you want on the Dr. Horrible DVD?

Let's start our wish list now! We know we'll get all three acts of the show, commentary, and a separate, musical commentary. Most likely we'll get a Making-Of feature, something on the music, and bloopers. What else would you like to see, to make this the most incredible Horrible DVD ever? Here's my suggestions:

- An extra Dr. Horrible story, filmed for the DVD

- Promos from the characters; Captain Hammer talking to schools, Penny talking about the homeless shelter, Dr. Horrible doing something court-appointed ("Kids! Don't do evil!")

- A karaoke version

- A fan commentary, with notable fans giving their reactions (your assistant has my e-mail, Mr. Whedon)

- Features on the people involved, fan reaction, media reaction

- Video of the Comic-Con panel

- A RiffTrax commentary, already bundled in

- A feature showing the making of the Making Of feature

- A small comic book (a la the Serenity comic that came bundled with the Best Buy version of the Serenity Special Edition DVD) of “Captain Hammer: Be Like Me”

- The original storyboards, possibly in napkin form

- A feature on the already-existing mad science apartment that was used

- The entire run of "Apartment 4B" by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, including the 1st episode

- A feature on the special effects, done with all the gravitas and detail as anything about Gollum on the LoTR DVDs. "Here we had to sync up Nathan leaping off a chair into frame just as the van careened by, so it really looked like he was jumping off the van. Timing was critical for it to really feel right, so we were there, oh god, almost 7 minutes before we were finally happy with it, but that's the kind of dedication we put into it. Then we had a Snickers."

And most importantly:

- Previews of the sequel

What do you want to see?

Firefly Blu-Ray DVD pushed to 2009

The Firefly Blu-Ray DVD set has been pushed back to 2009, but they are definitely still coming, according to Digital Bits.

So you have a bit more time to preorder it from Amazon and get the advance price. If you wanted. If, you know, you liked quality in high def, or something. Just saying.

Firefly Blu-Ray coming Sept. 23

bluray_firefly.jpgFOX has announced the release date for the Blu-Ray edition of "Firefly": it's coming September 23rd, with a suggested price of $89.98. You can preorder it from Amazon for $62.95 as of this posting.

No details on contents yet, but Jewel Staite has mentioned doing more commentaries, so let's hope for lots.

Interestingly enough, right now it's #2 in Amazon's TV DVD ranking (guess what number one is…)

Firefly DVDs $17.99 at Target

target_sale.jpgSaw this mentioned around the Interwebs yesterday but wanted to verify. Target has Firefly has on sale for $17.99, and you can't beat that price. I've tried.

So I bought another copy. Had to; I gave mine to my brother-in-law. Last one the store had, unfortunately (see pic), but you should run over to your own neighborhood Target and stock up yourself. There's gotta be someone you know who appreciate the best show on TV for the price of an extra large pizza. This is in-store only.
