Firefly DVDs coming out on Blu-Ray

This has been reported around the place before, since Jewel Staite spilled the beans about an upcoming Firefly DVD release during her talk at the Supernova Pop Culture Expo in Australia recently. But TVShowsonDVD.com has gotten verification from FOX that it is indeed happening, and it will be for Blu-Ray disc format.

Jewel mentioned new commentaries for a special box set, but no other details have been released so far. Keep watching!

Dammit. Now I have to buy a Blu-Ray player…

Firefly DVDs in Blu-ray?

dvd_fireflydvd.jpgSpotted at Amazon: a listing for a Blu-ray edition of the Firefly DVDs.

It's notable that there is no price, ship date, cover image or actual information available, so this is very probably Amazon being careful. But there is a place where you can ask to be notified when such a thing is available, and it might be interesting if they suddenly had a few hundred thousand people ask for it, don't you think?

Firefly Season One, Disc One for a buck (in Australia)

Got my hair cut yesterday — yes, there's enough to bother, barely — and got to talking to the hairdresser who was a huge "Buffy" and "Angel" fan (she quoted me long passages during my shampoo) but she'd never seen "Firefly." It was the first time I'd met her, but maybe after a few more visits I'll know her well enough to loan her one of my loaner DVD sets to get her started. Too bad I can't just hand her a disc.

Well, I could if I lived in Australia.

ezyDVD is now selling the first disc of the Firefly DVD set for an Aussie buck. That's four episodes, "Serenity," "The Train Job," "Bushwhacked," and "Our Mrs. Reynolds." How cool is that? Just buy a pocketful and hand them out wherever you go. Here's hoping this catches on over here, my poor hairdresser needs a cheap intro.

She certainly isn't making much money from me…

Firefly on sale at Target

The Firefly DVD set is on sale at Target this week, ranging from $19.99 to $25, depending on your area.

In-store only, you'll have to go in. Sorry, agoraphobes.

Joss and Tim Screenwriting Expo seminars on sale

screenwritingsale.jpg

Joss and Tim's Screenwriting Expo DVDs are on sale for just $12.97.

Every year the Screenwriting Expo brings the best movie and TV writers together to talk to crowds about the art and craft of telling stories, and these are two of the best around. Joss spoke to a rapt crowd about genre work, how to twist a story, how to grab the viewer (read my review here). And he was introduced by Nathan Fillion, which is worth the price all by itself.

Tim got up and broke a story for an Angel script, with the help of the audience, a rare peek into what it's like in the writers' room of an ongoing show. Also, he's funny (read my review here).

CreativeScreenwiting.com has the DVDs of many of their talks and expos on sale, in bundles or individually. Check 'em out.

Firefly DVDs for 10 bucks, today only

Wish I'd seen this earlier, but order the Firefly DVD set through Frye.com and use their $10 rebate to get the set for $9.99. The catch: the confirmation e-mail has to be dated 12/1/07.

Hurry!

(Although even without the rebate, Firefly for $19.99 ain't bad at all.)

Done the Impossible and the Browncoat Cruise news

DTI-Cruise-Ad-sm.jpg"Done the Impossible," the Browncoat documentary, has been sweeping through film festivals worldwide and will be screening at the Fantasy Worldwide Festival on Dec. 4. From DTI guy Brian Wiser:

"I created this PR piece because I was excited that Done The Impossible was actually selected to screen in six film festivals – no small feat with the number of entries festivals receive, and the 36+ festivals I entered into. And that's a small victory for the fans too. Plus, we probably added a few Browncoats into the fold (grin)"

This one-sheet (click for a larger version) will appear first (after here) in the souvenier book that will be given to attendees of the Browncoat Cruise, sailing Dec. 1 from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas with a cargo hold full of Browncoats, cast members, and the Bedlam Bards. The 30+ page, full color souvenier book is a collectable by itself, crammed full of bios of guests, staff, volunteers, and donors, with cardstock cover art by Adam-Levermore Rich — designed in the same spirit as the QMx travel posters — and featuring ads for the 76th Battalion, AbbyShot, the Ariel Ambulance, Artcat Designs, The Bellflower, Big Damn Chefs – Freedom From Hunger, Blackmarket Beagles, the Browncoat Ball, Can't Stop the Serenity, DragonWeave Jewelry, Done The Impossible, Fan Done, Firefly Cargo Bay, Kids Need to Read, Out to the Black Outfitters, Poplollies, QMx, the Serenity RPG, Starfury, The Signal, and The Wooten Center.

cruise_travelposter.jpgAttendees may also order the unofficial travel poster, designed by Adam.

Limited to 500 copies, you must have a passenger number to order so if you're not going you'd better find someone who is and beg them to preorder one for you. Passengers will be picking up their posters onboard, and if the posters sell out they will not be offered to non-attendees. (If there are any left you may be able to order them, but we won't know until after the cruise.)

Bon voyage, Browncoat Cruise people! Remember, love keeps her afloat when she oughta fall down, tells ya she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Just something to keep in mind.

Black Friday/weekend sales on Firefly

dvd_fireflydvd.jpgStores know what pulls in the customers on big sale days. Firefly! And every year it pops up on sale somewhere on Black Friday or during the big weekend sales after Thanksgiving. Let's check 'em out. And if you hear of any more, add 'em in the comments and I'll keep updating.

Fryes.com has it for $16.99.

It was on sale at Target for $14.88, anyone know if it still is? The website is, oddly enough, out of stock.

Buy.com now has it for $23.00. (The $18 price was Thursday only)

Any more?

Get Firefly for 15 bucks at Target

fireflydvds.jpgTarget's in-store ads include the Firefly DVD set for $14.88 this week only (Nov. 11-17). I don't think I've ever seen it that cheap before, and just in time for holiday shopping.

You must have some friends or coworkers somewhere who have yet to experience the best science fiction show ever made. If not, go find some. And then buy them Firefly.
