Serenity blueprints at TFAW

tfaw_blueprints.jpgQMx is running out, but Things From Another World is getting more Official Serenity Blueprints in stock. Preorder now and get 10% off!

This limited edition set of blueprints from the Serenity movie is sure to impress. Limited to 750 copies worldwide each set contains 10 full color 18"x24" prints on 100 pound satin finish paper. Painstakingly designed and illustrated by Geoffrey Mandel (graphic designer for Serenity) and Tim Earls (illustrator and set designer for Firefly and set designer for Serenity) these are not just mere posters. The set also contains an 11"x17" signature sheet featuring the original signatures of Mr. Mandel and Mr. Earls, and background essays by the blueprints' creators.

These sets will ship rolled in original packaging and enclosed in a 3" mailing tube and are limited to one set per customer.

The price is higher than ordering direct from QMx but their shipping is cheaper, plus you can combine shipping with any other TFAW purchases you make. Not a bad deal, since they've got more Serenity stuff than just about anybody.

How to treat your Serenity blueprints

Uncertain how best to enjoy your shiny new Serenity blueprints from QMx? Erin Palette has some tips.

First, you must create a sacred space. Remove all elements hostile to Firefly, Serenity, and Joss Whedon from the room. This includes any item with the word "Fox" in its name or on its container. (Naturally, your Firefly DVDs and CDs are exempt from this stricture, as they have already been purified by the Holy Name of Joss.)

What did you think about the Serenity blueprints?

qmx_bps.jpgPeople who ordered the blueprints from QMx Sunday are already reporting receiving them (and raving about them). Did you get yours? What did you think?

If you didn't get a set, there's still a hundred or so left from the limited run of 750. Head on over!

Blueprints on sale at QMx!

Head over there quick, the Sell-O-Meter is on the move! And the site seems oddly sluggish, as if there were a bunch of people clicking on it. Huh.

Only 750 for sale, these limited edition blueprints will not be produced again.

UPDATE: They've been on sale a little over an hour, and they appear to be almost half gone. Just sayin'.

Blueprints countdown – Interview with Geoff Mandel and Andy Gore

qmx_bps.jpgJust hours away now, as Browncoats begin massing outside QMx's website to get one of the limited edition sets of official Serenity blueprints, it's time to talk to two of the people behind them.

The blueprints, 10 18"x24" full-color and insanely detailed pages, were carefully crafted by Geoffrey Mandel (graphic designer for the movie) and Tim Earls (who created the original drawings of the ship for the TV show CG models and was set designer for the movie). An amazing amount of resources were tapped for this design including the original drawings, the CG models, the set blueprints, and thousands of screenshots to make sure that this was as close to canon as it could possibly be. Not only do these sheets finally determine where all the cabins are, where the crew keeps their drinking water, and where the heck all those doors lead to, they also include detailed views of the shuttles and mule.

These sheets — 10 blueprints and one "signature sheet" signed by Geoff and Tim, printed on heavy stock paper, are works of art and well worth framing, the definitive blueprints for our beloved little ship. I talked to Geoff and Andy Gore, director of Quantum Mechanix, about the whole shebang.

qmx_bp1.jpgQ: Tired of Serenity yet?

Geoff: Never! In fact, corresponding with you and the other Brain Trust members [note: the beta-test team] made me look forward to revisiting the Firefly DVDs (after a decent interval, of course). Going through all the photos and reference materials made me remember a lot of details from the movie set… such as the fact that the cargo barrels down in the hold were really rusty and disgusting.

Andy: Tired? Tired? Are you MAD?! Am I tired of my left arm? My right foot? A rainbow after a summer storm? ;-) Okay, no. You should *see* the list of Serenity-based projects I've submitted to the PD team for review. Don't believe me? Ask Geoff. He's working on all of them, right Geoff? ;-)

Well, not the first look, people on QMx's Insider newsletter got that, which is why you should wander over there and throw your e-mail address in. But darn close.
