When you can't run, you walk. And when you can't walk, you start a Facebook group. . .

iwiwaccJust started a new Facebook group.

No reason.

No reason at all.

Just had a lot of free time, you know, since I haven't gone anywhere recently, or anything…

San Diego Comic-Con app just launched

sdcc-appKinda pushing it a little close, here, but an iPhone app for the San Diego Comic-Con just arrived.

It's basically a mini version of the SDCC website, with a bit of interactivity. You get a countdown, the latest news (which opens the SDCC site in a browser instead of using RSS feeds or anything configured for an iPhone), a program list which allows you to select favorites (but not to call up a list consisting of only your favorites), a list of exhibitors, and maps of the different levels and exhibits. But the search function is only marginally useful, lists and the maps are not at all connected and the maps are simply graphics instead of Google-map-type programs.

All in all, a good first try. But it needs a LOT more interactivity to truly be useful. If I pull up an event, I want to be able to add it to my iPhone calendar, find it on an interactive map, and create a personal to do list. Hell, this is the iPhone, I should be able to select all the events and exhibitors and guests I'm interested in and be presented with a personal schedule with mapping directions to get me where I need to be, when I need to be there.

Maybe in the 2010 version.

Serenity stuff at SDCC – pretty much all of it

If you're going to the San Diego Comic-Con, you might save some time and just go to the California Browncoats table and give them all your money. If you're in the market for a Firefly or Serenity item, they'll have it there. UPDATE: Plus the four official Dr. Horrible T-shirts!

I'm not exaggerating, either. Check out the list at their SDCC page. All the books, all the DVDs, all the shirts and comics and licensed material from QMx and Dark Horse and all the great stuff from Out to the Black Outfitters and stuff to benefit charities like Equality Now (Joss' favorite), Kids Need to Read (Nathan's group) and St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital (Mark Sheppard's charity of choice). They'll even provide you with a shopping list to take with you, to make things easier.

They'll also have con exclusives, like the limited edition Serenity: Better Days #1 with special variant cover we discussed earlier and copies of The Guild DVD.

And they'll have guests and signings from PJ Haarsma (author of The Softwire series and co-founder of Kids Need to Read), Felicia Day (of "Buffy," "The Guild," and "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog"), the cast of "The Guild," Adam Levermore-Rich (fan-favorite browncoat artist and my partner in SaveHiatus.com), and Kevin J. Anderson & Rebecca Moesta (authors, Young Jedi Knights series and many more).

Plus contests, giveaways, a Jayne hat flash mob (shhh, it's a secret!) and more! Check out their SDCC page for more info, and go find them at the same place they were last year, at tables A7/A8 in Hall A at the back of Aisle 300. Go say hi!

Get the Comic Con exclusive misprinted Blue Sun Travel Poster set

qmx_londinum.jpgRemember the Blue Sun Travel Posters that QMx got out early for the California Browncoats to sell at the San Diego con? Remember the sudden frenzy when Joss finally settled the Londinum/Londinium matter, leaving QMx with suddenly-misprinted posters that became instant collectors items? Remember how badly you wanted one?

TFAW.com's got 'em.

Thanks to our partnership with fellow Blue Sun subsidiary, Quantum Mechanix Inc., you can now own a set of Blue Sun Travel Posters. These aren't just any travel posters either; these sets are 2007 San Diego Comicon exclusives! Printed as an advanced run for sale at the convention, a few sets made it out with a misprinted poster for Londinium (printed as Londinum). It's not quite as famous as the 1918 Inverted Jenny but it's still cool.

The Blue Sun Travel Company encourages citizens of the Alliance to explore the many amazing vistas that comprise our proud republic. It's a great big 'Verse full of fabulous sights to see and exotic cultures to experience. Whether you partake in the ancient and noble tea ceremony at the Companion Guild House on Sihnon, behold the awesome canyons of glass and steel on Londinium, enjoy the many distractions of the Gateway District on Persephone, shed a tear for our fallen Alliance heroes at the Monument at Serenity Valley, or be among the first to experience the pure tranquility of Miranda, a multitude of star systems full of unparalleled adventure await you.

And Blue Sun Travel is ready to take you there.

This officially licensed set contains 5 full-color, 17" x 22" prints on 100-pound, satin-finish paper. Included in the set are posters inviting you to travel to historic Serenity Valley, tranquil Miranda, exciting Persephone, beautiful Sihnon and awe-inspiring Londinium.

Sets are rolled and will be shipped in a sturdy mailing tube.

They've only got a limited number of these so don't delay. And don't forget the corrected, official sets also are on sale now. TFAW.com has already sold out of the first preorders, but they're getting more in.

Limited edition Comic Con exclusive Browncoat mugs

cc_mugs.jpgOnce again Browncoats step up for charity with cool stuff. This time we're talking exclusive mugs available only at the San Diego Comic Con from the California Browncoats booth July 26 – 28. The Cali heroes are teamed up with Mark "Badger" Sheppard to benefit St. Judes Children's Hospital by, among other things, offering these two limited edition mugs with 11th Hour's Serenity design and Sue Regonini's clasic Browncoats logo. There will be 500 of each available, hand-numbered, with a letter of authenticity. And if you buy one, you get entered into a special Thank You drawing. Considering the amazing stuff they've had in the past, you know this oughtta be good.

Mugs are $10 each and all proceeds go to the hospital. You'll be able to pre-order soon from the California Browncoats site (and preordering gets you a higher number). At the con they'll be at booths A7 and A8 in the dealers room. Don't miss out!
