Serenity online! Legally!
Well, the first nine minutes of it, anyway.
UIP has posted the first nine minutes of "Serenity," full screen, to get interest up for the second weekend.
You're all going the second weekend, right? Don't make me come out there.
'Serenity': Finally I can have my life back
At long last Joss Whedon's "Serenity" — the science-fiction-slash-western movie based on his canceled TV show "Firefly" — is premiering nationwide this week.
It's about time. I'm exhausted.
You could say I'm a fan of this fictional, multicultural universe of shepherds, gunfights, spaceships and whores. I'm active in the online forums. There are "Serenity" stickers on my car, action figures on my desk, and "Serenity" wallpaper on my computer. I curse in Chinese. I've had the theme song stuck in my head for three years. And I can't seem to stop myself from turning every conversation, no matter what, into a "Firefly" roundtable and trivia contest in under ten words.
"Agh, I spilled my ice. Ha! Remember that funny thing River said in 'Out of Gas' about freezing to death? I'll recite the entire episode from the beginning, to put it in context."
New pic: River

Just finished a design I wanted to see, a pic of the River you don't want to cross.
Haven't decided yet if I want to color it although I'll probably try anyway just to thoroughly aggravate myself. I'm convinced that daVinci, Michaelangelo, and Picasso would never have made it if they'd had to color their work with a trackball mouse and the world would be a much poorer place for it.
Review: Serenity action figures

Just got home to find a box waiting, and it was full of Serenity! In plastic form!
Sadly, none of the ladies of Serenity have been figured, but here's what's available so far, with comments. WARNING: the more spoiler-centric of you might wish to avoid reading, just in case. Just look at the pictures.
River Tam security clips
All five viral marketing clips of River Tam's security tapes have been released, as far as we know. Check these out:
1st released: R. Tam – Session 416 – Second Excerpt
2nd released: R. Tam – Session 1 – Excerpt
3rd released: R. Tam – Session 22 – Excerpt
4th released: R. Tam – Session 165 – Excerpt
5th released: R. Tam – Session 416 – First Excerpt
Site with various links to all of them, in different formats, plus FAQ: www.session416.com
No spoilers, these scenes do not appear in the movie. They are damn creepifying, though. Comments on the movie board suggest there are four in all so they may be more coming.
"Serenity" novelization: a spoiler-free review
If you have not seen the movie Serenity, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK YET. If you have seen the movie, read this book several times.
Like the best novelizations, DeCandido's Serenity includes all the dialogue and action from the movie and then slides in the mustard; now we get to get inside the characters, see the motivations and histories, find out what River really thinks and what Jayne muses about when there's no one needs shootin' right off. Not that you'll find out all you'd like to, but there are a few more questions answered and some apparent inconsistencies smoothly explained. DeCandido clearly loves these characters and wears their voices well, and in this work he does exactly what Serenity fans want him to do: he makes the movie even better. And that's no small feat.
Serenity news, because you know you want it
The movie's momentum is picking up the pace. Behind-the-scenes trailers are showing in AMC theaters, posters are popping up in all theaters, and rating for the reruns on SciFi (Friday nights at 7 pm) are comparable to the ratings for their heavy hitter shows.
The mainstream media is catching on, and articles about Serenity will be appearing here: CFQ (September issue), Co-Ed Magazine (Fall issue), Dreamwatch (September issue), Femme Fatales (September issue), Sci-Fi Magazine (September/October issue), Entertainment Weekly (August 12th issue), Latina (September issue), Paste (August/September issue), Premiere (October issue), Starlog (October issue), TV Guide (September 25th issue), Wired (September issue), and Wizard (September issue).
Indiagames has announced that they're developing a cellphone game based on Serenity (warning, game description contains spoilers).
The Best Buy release of Battlestar Galactica UK Season 1 included a promo disc for Serenity, with interviews with Joss and the cast, behind the scenes shots, and a look at the fans. Contains some spoilers.
There are weekly podcasts called The Signal available through iTunes or by going to their site, www.serenityfirefly.com . News, interviews, Chinese lessons, and more.
Issue #2 of the Serenity comic is out from Dark Horse comics. There are three issues in this series, with three different covers for each, giving each character their own cover. The series explains what happened between the TV show and the movie.
Latest info available at the official site. Gettin' closer…
Why you should always be polite
Over at the official Serenity site forums, Nathan Fillion (the actor who played Captain Reynolds on the original show, "Firefly") posted a rant against a comic shop clerk. This is nothing new, as online rants go, but it takes on a different slant when it's a beloved actor ranting to 44,000 of his rabid fans (of which I'm at least three). I'm thinking this is going to be an interesting day for that clerk…

Post subject: Captain Outraged! Edmonton, fall in!
It is times like these that I feel like Malcolm Reynolds. This is something that would surely get you kicked into an engine. I just went to a comic store to purchase the Serenity comic for my mom. The sweetheart that she is, gave her issues (with her favorite character on the front) to relatives who were having trouble tracking one down. Please bear in mind that Canada is a wonderous place where the service industry is polite and helpful, and that this experience is not the norm. The store I chose, which shall remain nameless (Warp 1 Comics), at an undisclosed location (just off Whyte Ave), has the singlemost sanctimonious, condescending, dishonest a$$hole I've had the misfortune of meeting. My brother and I called ahead to find out they had one issue left, but upon arriving, found out they are gouging people $20 bucks for the damned thing! "That's what they're worth." he sneered at me. I asked him to show me a listing of some sort to back it up. "Well, I just know what I paid Dark Horse for it." He wouldn't show me that, either. I am aware that Dark Horse wasn't expecting these books to sell as well as they are, and that they are going into a second printing, but I just picked up three of them two days ago at cover price at another store. My brother piped up with a, "What an interesting attitude you have." Let me tell you folks, this fella had an attitude, and a smirk that you wanted to knock off his face with a baseball bat dipped in dog poop. Of course, my brother couldn't help letting this guy know who he was trying to hose by holding the issue next to my face. "This guy look familliar? This isn't some JoJo off the street! He knows what he's talking about!" Check this out- the reply of this one-eyed crap-catcher, who shall remain nameless (Darryl) was, (and imagine a dullards voice- how we make people we don't like sound in a story) "Well, then you can call Joss Whedon and ask him."
Wouldn't a smart business man ask me to sign an issue and sell me one at a fair price? Wouldn't that fetch a prettier penny than ripping me off for one issue? Congratulations, dude! You are now on the Browncoat $hitlist.
Never have I tried to wield power in this way, but if being Malcolm Reynolds has taught me anything, it's to follow my over-developed sense of vengeance. BOYCOTT WARP ONE COMICS! If you are in the neighborhood, drop by to tell "Patchy" that Browncoats don't take $hit from anyone. Tell your friends not to shop there, and lock 'em in the airlock if they do. Copy this post and e-mail it to fellow Edmontonians. Bump it to keep it alive.
Thank you. Thank you for letting me rant. If you feel I'm overboard, please feel free to, as Joss would say, contemplate silently.
The Captain
Saw "Serenity" last night
Wow.
Just… wow.
Went back to the friend's house we were staying at — had to go across the state to the screening — and stayed up til 3 talking about it, laughing and sniffling and arguing.
Can't give particulars without revealing suprises you really don't want revealed. I can say that everyone's back, everyone gets a chance to shine, and that this was the most emotional, heart-breaking, exciting, dramatic, and damn funny movies I've ever seen.
If you want to ruin it for yourself, I'm posting a review-of-sorts on the "I've Seen Serenity" spoilerific forum at the movie website. But don't read it.
Serenity advanced screening: I hate you all
Advanced screenings of the Firefly movie Serenity will be shown in 10 cities in 10 states on Thursday, May 5. Information on ticket sales is here.
If you can watch the trailer released yesterday and not want to see this, I wonder about you. Really. Seek help.
In the meantime, since Florida is not one of the 10 states — rackin' frackin' son of a… — please be aware that if you live near one of these theaters, I hate you. Each and every one of you. I'll be whiling away my time on the offical movie site, drowning my sorrows with the other geographically challenged browncoats.
